Alatina alata is a cubozoan jellyfish (family Alatinidae) distributed across tropical and subtropical Indo-Pacific and Atlantic waters. Unlike most cnidarians, cubozoans possess complex, camera-type eyes with lenses, corneas, and retinas, enabling sophisticated visual behaviors including obstacle avoidance and phototaxis. Its nematocysts can cause severe stings including Irukandji syndrome in some regions, and a genome assembly has been produced for comparative studies of cubozoan vision and venom evolution.
