Agaricia agaricites, the lettuce coral, is a foliose scleractinian coral (family Agariciidae) found throughout the Caribbean Sea and adjacent Atlantic waters. Its colonies form thin, leaf-like structures with concentric ridge-and-valley corallite patterns growing in diverse reef environments from shallow fore-reefs to mesophotic depths. The species harbors Symbiodiniaceae photosymbionts and plays an important structural and ecological role on Caribbean reefs. Genomic data have been generated for this species and are available in public databases, enabling comparative studies of cnidarian evolution and ecology.
