Callogorgia gracilis is a deep-water gorgonian coral (family Primnoidae, order Alcyonacea) found in cold, bathyal environments in the northeastern Atlantic and Mediterranean at depths typically exceeding 200 m, forming fan-like or tree-like colonies on hard substrates that provide important structural habitats for diverse deep-sea invertebrate and fish communities. Like other cold-water gorgonians, it grows extremely slowly and can be very long-lived. Genomic data have been generated for this species and are available in public databases, enabling comparative studies of cnidarian evolution and ecology.
