Ceratomyxa sp. 57-BR2022 is a myxozoan parasite (class Myxosporea, family Ceratomyxidae) assigned a provisional designation from a Brazilian specimen collection of marine fish parasites. Members of Ceratomyxa typically infect gallbladders and other internal organs of marine teleost fish, producing spores released into the water column to complete complex life cycles involving alternate invertebrate hosts. Despite their drastically reduced body plans, myxozoans retain key cnidarian synapomorphies at the molecular level, confirming their phylogenetic affiliation with Cnidaria.
