Chrysaora fuscescens, the Pacific sea nettle (family Pelagiidae), is a large scyphozoan jellyfish with a golden-brown, striated bell reaching 50 cm in diameter, occurring in coastal and offshore waters of the northeastern Pacific from Canada to Mexico. The species forms seasonal blooms in upwelling zones where it feeds voraciously on zooplankton, fish eggs, and small fish, competing with commercial fish species for prey. Its blooms can be ecologically disruptive and interfere with aquaculture and fisheries operations on the Pacific coast. Genomic data have been generated for this species and are available in public databases, enabling comparative studies of cnidarian evolution and ecology.
