Duncanopsammia axifuga is a phaceloid scleractinian coral (family Dendrophylliidae) native to shallow turbid reef environments of the Indo-Pacific, particularly the inner Great Barrier Reef, with widely separated corallites on elongated stalks bearing large, fleshy polyps. Unusually for its family, it is zooxanthellate (harboring Symbiodiniaceae) and thrives in the silty, turbid inshore conditions where many other corals are less competitive. The species is popular in reef aquaria and is commercially propagated for the ornamental trade. Genomic data have been generated for this species and are available in public databases, enabling comparative studies of cnidarian evolution and ecology.
