Dichotella gemmacea is a gorgonian coral (order Alcyonacea) found in shallow Indo-Pacific reef environments, forming densely branching, dichotomously divided fan-like colonies as filter feeders that capture plankton and suspended particles with polyps. The species is found on exposed reef slopes and crests in the tropical Pacific and Indian Ocean, contributing to habitat complexity for associated fish and invertebrates. Indo-Pacific gorgonians including Dichotella are increasingly surveyed for secondary metabolites with pharmacological potential. Genomic data have been generated for this species and are available in public databases, enabling comparative studies of cnidarian evolution and ecology.
