Edwardsia elegans is a tube-dwelling sea anemone (family Edwardsiidae) found in soft sediments along the Atlantic coast of North America, lacking a pedal disc and instead creating a mucous tube anchored in soft sediment with only the tentacle-bearing oral disc extending into the water column for feeding. The species is studied in the context of cnidarian phylogenetics as a member of one of the most basal actiniarian families, providing insights into early sea anemone evolution and body plan origins.
