Eunicella verrucosa, the pink sea fan (family Gorgoniidae), is found along rocky submarine slopes in the northeastern Atlantic from Norway to West Africa, forming broad fan-like structures up to 60 cm across at depths of 10–200 m and protected under UK and European wildlife legislation due to its ecological importance as a habitat-forming species in cold-water rocky reef ecosystems. Research on its population genetics and thermal tolerance is critical for managing this vulnerable cold-water gorgonian coral. Genomic data have been generated for this species and are available in public databases, enabling comparative studies of cnidarian evolution and ecology.
