About Epizoanthus stellaris

Epizoanthus stellaris is a star-patterned epizoic zoantharian (family Epizoanthidae) forming colonies on invertebrate hosts including sponges and gorgonians in tropical and subtropical seas. The molecular systematics of Epizoanthus and related genera are being progressively clarified through multi-locus and whole-genome phylogenetic analyses. The species contributes to understanding the diversity and evolution of epizoic cnidarians and their chemical ecology.
