
Eunicea succinea is a branching gorgonian coral (family Plexauridae) endemic to the Caribbean Sea, forming moderately dense colonies named for its amber (succinate-colored) coloration when preserved, inhabiting shallow reef crests to fore-reef slopes. Like other Caribbean plexaurids, it produces terpenoid compounds studied in marine natural products chemistry. Research on Eunicea genomes contributes to understanding the ecology and evolution of the dominant Caribbean gorgonian fauna.
