Haliclystus inabai is a stalked jellyfish (class Staurozoa, family Haliclystidae) found in cold temperate coastal waters of the western Pacific, particularly Japan, sessile by an adhesive pedal disc on macroalgae or seagrass with eight lobed tentacle clusters for prey capture. Staurozoa is one of the four major cnidarian classes and is considered a critical outgroup for reconstructing ancestral cnidarian life histories. Genomic data have been generated for this species and are available in public databases, enabling comparative studies of cnidarian evolution and ecology.
