Isaurus tuberculatus is a zoantharian (family Isauridae, order Zoantharia) known for its tubular, elongated polyps with distinctive warty projections giving it a coral-like appearance despite lacking a calcareous skeleton, forming encrusting or erect colonies in shallow tropical marine environments often in shaded, high-flow areas such as reef crevices and under overhangs. The family Isauridae occupies an interesting phylogenetic position within Zoantharia and is studied in the context of corallimorpharian-zoantharian evolutionary relationships. Genomic data have been generated for this species and are available in public databases, enabling comparative studies of cnidarian evolution and ecology.
