Kudoa neothunni is a myxozoan parasite (family Kudoidae) infecting the muscle of yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) and related scombrids, causing post-mortem muscle liquefaction and rendering infected fish unmarketable in sashimi and fresh fish markets. Its characteristic spores are small and quadrangular, deposited in muscle pseudocysts that break down after the fish dies. Economic losses from Kudoa-mediated post-harvest muscle deterioration are significant in tuna fisheries worldwide.
