Leptogorgia sarmentosa is a slender, flexible gorgonian coral (family Gorgoniidae) found in the Mediterranean Sea and northeastern Atlantic, forming loosely branching colonies with yellow to orange coloration on rocky substrates from shallow subtidal to over 50 m depth, characteristic of coralligenous communities—biogenic reefs built by encrusting coralline algae. Mediterranean gorgonians including L. Genomic data have been generated for this species and are available in public databases, enabling comparative studies of cnidarian evolution and ecology.
