
Leptoseris scabra is a plating scleractinian coral (family Agariciidae) found at mesophotic depths (30–150 m) across the Indo-Pacific, forming thin, flat plates or scroll-like colonies as a specialist of low-light mesophotic reef habitats that host specialized Symbiodiniaceae clades adapted to low-light conditions. Mesophotic Leptoseris species are of growing conservation interest as potential deep refugia from shallow coral bleaching events, and their genomics reveal adaptations to the photosynthetically challenging twilight zone.
