Madrepora sp. 1 SH-2022 is an undescribed scleractinian coral (family Oculinidae) assigned a provisional collection label from a Chinese survey, belonging to a genus of primarily deep and cold-water azooxanthellate colonial branching corals capable of forming dense framework structures in aphotic environments. The complex taxonomy of Madrepora and related genera benefits greatly from molecular data, and this specimen's genome advances comparative cold-water coral genomics.
