Madrepora sp. SY280-shi is an undescribed or provisionally designated scleractinian coral (family Oculinidae or Madreporidae) collected from deep-water environments in China, likely azooxanthellate and an important structural component of cold-water coral reef ecosystems. Genomic resources for Madrepora species contribute to understanding deep-sea coral evolution and the molecular basis of cold-water coral framework construction in the absence of photosymbiosis.
