
Nanomia bijuga is a colonial siphonophore hydrozoan (family Agalmatidae, order Siphonophorae) found in mesopelagic oceanic waters worldwide, forming elongated colonies composed of highly differentiated zooids specialized for propulsion, feeding, defense, and reproduction. Siphonophores are remarkable for their extreme zooid specialization and colony-level integration, making them one of the most physiologically complex colonial organisms known. A genome assembly was produced for N. Siphonophores play important roles in deep-sea food webs and carbon cycling.
