Nausithoe racemosa is a coronate scyphozoan jellyfish (order Coronatae, family Nausithoidae) found in oceanic waters, with a distinctive bell bearing a coronal groove that separates the central disc from the peripheral lappets—a feature diagnostic of coronate medusae. Coronatae is considered the most basal order of Scyphozoa and is important for reconstructing the early evolution of jellyfish. Its polyp stage is a colonial, tube-dwelling form found in deep and cold water habitats, and the alternation between this polyp and the medusan stage has attracted evolutionary developmental interest. Genomic data have been generated for this species and are available in public databases, enabling comparative studies of cnidarian evolution and ecology.
