About Porites divaricata

Porites divaricata is a branching scleractinian coral (family Poritidae) found in shallow Caribbean reef and lagoonal environments, forming colonies of thin, widely diverging branches characteristic of this species. It is a common component of Caribbean seagrass beds and lagoonal reef communities and tolerates turbid, low-flow conditions better than most other branching corals. Its tolerance of marginal reef conditions makes it an interesting model for studying coral adaptation to environmental stress and degraded habitat quality.
