Porites evermanni is a massive, encrusting scleractinian coral (family Poritidae) found in shallow Hawaiian and central Pacific reef environments, forming dome-shaped colonies on exposed and semi-exposed reef slopes. Like other massive Porites species, it is long-lived and grows slowly but steadily, recording environmental history in its skeletal density bands. It contributes significantly to reef accretion and carbonate budget in Hawaiian reef ecosystems. Genomic data have been generated for this species and are available in public databases, enabling comparative studies of cnidarian evolution and ecology.
