About Paragorgia papillata

Paragorgia papillata is a large, colonial deep-sea gorgonian coral (family Paragorgiidae, order Alcyonacea) found in cold, deep-water environments of the Pacific Ocean at depths of several hundred to over 1000 m. Known as bubblegum corals due to the distinctive spherical swellings on their branches, Paragorgia species form large, tree-like colonies that serve as important structural habitats and biodiversity hotspots in deep-sea ecosystems. These extremely slow-growing, long-lived corals are highly vulnerable to bottom trawling disturbance.
