About Platygyra sinensis

Platygyra sinensis is a massive brain coral (family Merulinidae) forming large, dome-shaped colonies with meandering valleys and ridges across shallow Indo-Pacific reef environments, from the Red Sea to the Pacific. Its labyrinthine surface with shared walls between adjacent valleys is characteristic of meandroid coral growth. The species maintains photosymbiosis with Symbiodiniaceae and is an important reef-builder across the Indo-Pacific. Platygyra corals are subjects of bleaching research and restoration programs across the Indo-Pacific reef zone.
