About Parazoanthus atlanticus

Parazoanthus atlanticus is a zoantharian (family Parazoanthidae, order Zoantharia) forming colonial encrusting polyps on sponges, gorgonians, or rocky substrates in the northeastern Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Unlike Palythoa and related genera, Parazoanthus species do not incorporate foreign particles into the coenenchyme and are not known to produce palytoxin, instead producing a different class of alkaloids (parazoanthines).
