Phyllorhiza punctata, the Australian spotted jellyfish (family Mastigiidae), is a rhizostome scyphozoan native to the Indo-Pacific but introduced into the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean, where it forms large blooms that cause significant ecological disruption by consuming large quantities of zooplankton and fish eggs. Its bell is covered in white spots and harbors dense populations of Symbiodiniaceae photosymbionts that supplement its nutritional intake from filter feeding. It is considered one of the most ecologically damaging marine invasive jellyfish species globally.
