
Stephanocoenia intersepta, the blushing star coral (family Astrocoeniidae), is a dome-forming scleractinian coral endemic to the Caribbean Sea, forming compact, rounded colonies with distinctive corallite morphology on shallow to mid-depth reef environments. It is the only Caribbean representative of the family Astrocoeniidae, making it systematically important for studies of Caribbean coral biogeography and the evolutionary history of reef-building corals in the Atlantic.
