Stylatula elongata is a sea pen (order Pennatulacea, family Virgulariidae) found in soft-sediment habitats along the Pacific coast of North America, forming slender, elongated colonies anchored in muddy or sandy substrates with polyps arranged in clusters along the upper portion of the rachis. Like other virgulariid sea pens, it is an important suspension feeder in soft-sediment benthic communities and provides structural habitat for associated invertebrates. Genomic data have been generated for this species and are available in public databases, enabling comparative studies of cnidarian evolution and ecology.
