Turbinaria reniformis is a foliose to funnel-shaped scleractinian coral (family Dendrophylliidae) found in shallow to moderately deep Indo-Pacific reef environments, forming distinctive scroll-like, funnel-shaped, or plate-like colonies with large polyps, and is unique in the family for being zooxanthellate. The species inhabits turbid, low-light reef environments where its unusual morphology maximizes light collection by Symbiodiniaceae. It is studied in the context of coral adaptation to turbid coastal reef conditions. Genomic data have been generated for this species and are available in public databases, enabling comparative studies of cnidarian evolution and ecology.
