Tamoya ohboya is a cubozoan box jellyfish (family Carybdeidae) described from Caribbean waters, named informally for the exclamation of pain its sting produces in swimmers. Like other carybdeid box jellyfish, it possesses four paddle-shaped pedalia each bearing a single tentacle with powerful nematocysts capable of causing significant dermatological reactions. Its complex visual system includes four sets of eyes at each corner of the bell, with both simple pit eyes and complex lens eyes providing sophisticated spatial vision. Genomic data have been generated for this species and are available in public databases, enabling comparative studies of cnidarian evolution and ecology.
