About Taxipathes sp. SY275-mao

Taxipathes sp. SY275-mao is an undescribed black coral (order Antipatharia) collected from deep-water environments in Chinese waters and assigned a provisional collection identifier. Like other antipatharians, it forms colonies with a proteinaceous, spine-bearing dark axis covered by a thin layer of coenenchyme bearing small polyps, inhabiting depths of hundreds to thousands of meters. Genomic data from undescribed antipatharian specimens help clarify the systematics and biogeography of this taxonomically complex order.
