Veretillum cynomorium is a sea pen (order Pennatulacea, family Veretillidae) found in soft-sediment habitats of the northeastern Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea, forming cylindrical, club-shaped colonies anchored in sandy and muddy substrates from the shallow subtidal to over 100 m depth. Unlike feather-shaped pennatulaceans, its polyps are distributed around the entire circumference of an unbranched cylindrical rachis giving it a distinctive club-like appearance. Genomic data have been generated for this species and are available in public databases, enabling comparative studies of cnidarian evolution and ecology.
