Zoanthus sociatus is a colonial zoantharian (family Zoanthidae) widely distributed in shallow Caribbean reef and rocky environments, forming dense, sociable mats of polyps on exposed reef crests, rubble, and intertidal zones across the tropical western Atlantic. It is one of the most abundant and ecologically dominant zoantharians in the Caribbean, competing effectively with algae and other encrusting organisms for space on degraded reef surfaces. Genomic data have been generated for this species and are available in public databases, enabling comparative studies of cnidarian evolution and ecology.
